How do I view traffic data about my competitors?

You can view traffic information for individual competitors on a Competitor Page, accessible by clicking on a competitor's name from the "Dashboard". You can also compare traffic of up to 5 competitors by clicking on the "Traffic Graph" tab.

Where does the traffic data come from?

Competitious currently pulls traffic data for your competitors from Alexa. The Traffic Graph is pulled from Alexaholic, which uses the Alexa data.

Why is traffic data important?

If your business is web-based, comparing your traffic and traffic patterns to your competitors can be a valuable benchmark. If your business/product is not web-based, traffic data about your competitors' site is still a useful comparison metric. While staying up to date on your competitors' traffic rankings is a good idea, the traffic data can also show traffic spikes that may have resulted from something a competitor has launched or some press/media event.

Is the traffic data used on Competitious accurate?

The Alexa data is calculated from aggregate usage data from users of the Alexa browser toolbar. When comparing companies in the same market segment or industry, the relative rankings can be meaningful. The traffic data also can be a good indicator of significant increases in traffic from various press events.

Why can't I see traffic data for a competitor?

Alexa does not generate a traffic graph for sites with a 'traffic rank' under 100,000 (meaning the site is not ranked in the top 100,000 by Alexa). If no traffic data shows up at all on the Competitor Page for that competitor, Alexa may have not gathered data for that domain yet.
